Lack of some essential keyboard shortcuts like Nudge Left/Right, Rewind/Forward.

Also, I HATE Pro Tools shortcuts and am not familiar with them at all. I mean, COME ON! Even UA claims that LUNA can and should be used alongside your main DAW so it only makes sense that you can keep using the same shortcuts in both DAWS since you're switching between them, right? If I'm only test driving LUNA why are they forcing me to commit their keyboard shortcuts to memory? Amounts to a whole bunch of frustration. Hopefully the prices go down at some point.
just like we all have adapted to the ongoing situation. I guess you could argue that no one saw the pandemic coming and that you can't really blame them but they could have revised their pricing and just adapted to the situation. With the pandemic going on, people losing jobs and overall career/financial uncertainty it's very VERY ballsy to ask for $300 per Extension. They could have afforded to offer introductory pricing.

The fact that LUNA is free does not magically make it somehow exempt from criticism: And no, contrary to what the UA fan boys have been spouting online, I am totally entitled to criticize a "free" product. I'm going to do a real, much heavier stress test in LUNA to see if it's still as snappy. If your Logic session is really heavy you'll start to see the UI and everything actually slow down a bit. Moving tracks/clips/stuff around in LUNA is instantaneous, not like in Logic. If you're not gain staging correctly, the red OL button will flash angrily at you.

I'll be sad when my 14 day trial is over. You feel inspired to play and write with these sounds as soon you hear them, which is of course is a good thing and probably exactly what the UA team had in mind as they were designing/curating the sounds. Like you could load an instrument up and get right to recording without the need to tweak at all. ok, maybe not the live acoustic drums but everything else does sound amazing right out of the download. Not as many sounds as Logic gives you but every one of them sounds amazing. SHAPE! That thing is simply insane, and it's totally free! Very high quality, GORGEOUS sounds. Instead, we have a stupid small meter that runs across the top right and has no meters whatsoever, so pretty useless. I do love the positioning of the main level meter with actual proper meters on the right, I wish Logic had that. I love the look of Logic's "regions" (clips) the best. The main window looks a lot like a mixture of Pro Tools + Studio One and the clips remind me of Bitwig/Studio One. I think LUNA's Mixer is especially beautiful. It's almost better looking than Logic, something I've never been able to claim about any other DAW that exists out there. Reminds me of Logic (the DAW I make money with) in this sense. Yes, even you, Ableton.īeautiful UI that you can look at for countless hours. UA beats out all of the competition in this department. Check out Fab's NAMM demonstration when he does extreme time stretching. Running Mojave.Īudio warping algorithms are second to none. I do have 16GB of ram and lots of free hard space and keep my system/samples/projects all on 3 separate SSDs though. I only have 2 SHARC chips and an older computer too so I'm quite surprised. I've been reading mixed opinions about CPU/DSP optimization but personally performance is good. On my system, performance is pretty optimized. I hate HATE having to switch between Logic and Console when I'm tracking live instruments. If you're a UA/Console user you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I feel like even my third party AU software instruments like Kontakt seem to be performing better.ĭirect integration with Console and the UAD plugins. It's a very beautiful thing especially when it comes to software instruments. For something that's "free" it's pretty amazing. I've even provided some workarounds for some of the missing features which I hope will be helpful to those of you who are missing these features.įirst of all, I like LUNA. I've been playing with it since and have formed several opinions on it, so I decided to share. I promptly downloaded and installed LUNA as soon as it was announced as I have been waiting for LUNA's release since NAMM early this year.
